Top runner admits causing injury by dangerous driving

Anti-conscription advocate Lamont Marshall entered a guilty plea in the Supreme Court yesterday to causing injury by dangerous driving to Carley Lima and Ian Scotton.The top distance runner was initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm through impaired driving and refusing to give a breath sample.Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke accepted the guilty plea on the lesser charge, lawyer Eugene Johnston appeared for the defendant.In a brief court appearance Puisne Judge Stephan Hellman yesterday, Mr Marshall’s $10,000 bail with one surety was extended.The case will be mentioned again at the next Arraignment Session on March 1.The accident occurred on August 13 at 1.09am at the junction of Middle Road in Paget and South Road.According to a police spokesman, a man in a car was travelling east on South Road, when it collided with a motorcycle travelling west.Mr Marshall, 28, is alleged to have been the driver of the car involved.Ms Lima was treated for what police described as serious head injuries in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit before being transferred overseas for further treatment.Mr Scotton was treated at King Edward VII Memorial and later released.
