both secured month-long trials with English Fourth Division club Crewe Alexandra.

The latest development means that five Bermuda players will now be taking part in trials in England this month, with Kyle Lightbourne, Neil Paynter and Albert Smith heading to Fourth Division side Scarborough the same day.

For 19-year-old Adams it will be his second trial stint in England, having been to Cambridge United in 1989 with David Bascome. He first got into the Bermuda team soon after returning though it was not until last summer against Aberdeen that he made the goalkeeping spot his own.

"I'm definitely a much more experienced 'keeper, more confident and looking forward to this next opportunity,'' the youngest member of Bermuda's World Cup team said last night.

Adams has also been lined up with a scholarship at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and says he still has that to fall back on if he does not succeed in the trials.

In Bermuda's 11 international matches since the Aberdeen match, Adams has played in 10, only missing the second match of the Bermuda team's three-match tour of Nova Scotia last September when Randy Darrell was given a start.

In those 10 matches, Adams has kept six clean sheets and has conceded seven goals, including three against Norway and two against Haiti. He has played in all seven of Bermuda's matches this year.

Goalkeeping coach Gywnne Williams was instrumental in getting the trials for Adams. "I want to give special thanks to Gwynne for his efforts,'' said Bermuda manager Mark Trott. "He has worked hard with our 'keepers. `Pinks' Lewis was working with the 'keepers before Gwynne came along and it's been a lot harder to sell a goalkeeper than an outfield player. "Most clubs look for keepers 6'4'' or taller but Streaker, who's about 5'11'' has got real ability.

Apparently, Crewe only have one 'keeper, so they were prepared to have a good look at him.'' Smith, 22, also aims to make the most of his opportunity. "I was waiting for an opportunity to come my way and I have to make the most of it,'' the sweeper said. "Opportunities like this only knock once.'' Smith, a former Bermuda youth and Under-23 captain, has been a regular starter in the defence since making his debut against Norway in February.

All five triallists depart for England next Wednesday, aiming to join Shawn Goater, Meshach Wade and Kentoine Jennings as professionals in England.

Crewe just missed joining Goater's Rotherham United in gaining promotion from the Fourth Division last season when they were beaten by Scunthorpe in the semifinals of the play-offs.
