Charlie's big day a boost for Bailey's
to the national squad.
The 31-year-old Bailey's Bay star was drafted into the squad for this weekend's two-match tour by Pakistan. The initial plan was to be as back up for Albert Steede and Roger Trott who were injured in the match against Bay last week. But Marshall may very well see action on his own merit.
Marshall heads this week's Fab Five and is joined by Trent Lightbourne of Warwick, Brian Gibbons of Somerset Bridge, Eugene Foggo of St. George's and Ryan Belboda of Southampton.
Charlie Marshall: Rose to the occasion for the big game of the day at Devonshire Rec. Scored a fluent 69 that was the key to Bailey's Bay's formidable total of 258 for eight in 49 overs. Marshall hit five fours and three sixes before a line drive off Anthony Amory was well held on the mid-wicket boundary by John Ray. By the time Marshall came on the ball, Devonshire were already in a hole at 132 for three with less than 20 overs remaining. He used a quick full toss to induce a return catch from Mark Ray and then trapped potential danger man Anthony Edwards to finish with two for 12.
Trent Lightbourne: More performances such as this will give Warwick great credibility. Lightbourne simply needed a little more support to pull off a shock win over Somerset Bridge. Lightbourne hit 14 fours and a six and later gave Warwick a glimpse by dismissing Bridge's top scorer.
Brian Gibbons: Warwick appeared set for a big total before the former Youth Squad bowler picked up four for three from 6.3 overs. Warwick collapsed from 165 for four to 171 all out. Then, after given a second life when he had earlier been bowled but recalled for a late no-ball call, Gibbons checked Bridge's early slump with a knock of 59, which included six fours and a six.
Eugene Foggo: On a good wicket at St. John's field, Foggo returned his best figures of the season of four for 27 against lowly Social Club. The left-hander then batted through the St. George's innings for 33 not out, which included four fours, as the east-enders won by six wickets.
Ryan Belboda: Definitely a bowler to watch in what is shaping up to be a strong Southampton team. Overshadowed in turn by Kyle Lightbourne, Quinton Burch and now young Garry Williams, medium-pacer Belboda can be good for Rangers in the limited overs game as he bowls very straight. New team PHC can attest to that after he orchestrated their dismissal for a paltry 51 runs.
Belboda claimed six for 15 from eight overs.
