Bus service back to normal after walk-out
Buses resumed normal service yesterday after drivers walked off the job amid concern over Covid-19 infections.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Transport said health guidelines and protocols would be in place on the vehicles to safeguard “the commuting public and the Department of Public Transportation's bus operators”. No other details were provided.
On Friday, buses came to a standstill for Covid testing of Department of Transportation staff. It was later revealed that four drivers had tested positive for the virus.
However, drivers walked off the job and buses were suspended ‘until further notice’ as talks took place with the Bermuda Industrial Union.
Lawrence Scott, the transport minister, said at the time: “As the community can appreciate, like other frontline workers, that public transport providers are critical to keeping our economy active as we navigate this outbreak.”
The bus service resumed as normal yesterday at 6am.
