A Royal Gazette reporter took to the streets of Hamilton to find out who had complaints or praises.

Lately The Royal Gazette have been made aware that some viewers of the Winter Olympics were disappointed with coverage on ZBM and CableVision.

But a street poll conducted yesterday -- the morning after CBS recorded the highest-ever viewership ratings for a sports event with its coverage of the women's ice skating -- showed many people were fairly happy with it.

Ms Lisa Morris said the coverage has been pretty good. "I've seen what I've wanted to see, and that was the ice skating.'' Mrs. Edith Stewart agreed but said that she was bored by some of the programming.

On behalf of those who like to get an early night Mrs. Joann King said: "The Olympics come on too late at night. I fall asleep and I can't get to see it.'' Mrs. Deborah Tucker disliked CBS' coverage. "They are not showing much foreign participants, there is more focus on US coverage.'' But Mr. Kevin Gunther felt the coverage was more than adequate. "There are copyright laws in existence and ZBM have purchased the rights. They are the ones that paid the price.

"Cablevision is bound to act accordingly.'' However Mr. Gavin Dent disagreed. "The coverage is reasonable but it is biased towards Americans. I prefer more coverage and more of a variety of people.

"They should have a broader spectrum of channels so you can choose what you want to watch.'' Mrs. Sandra Guglielmucci said the coverage was not that good.

"It's too much on the American side. I have seen some Canadian coverage and it's much better. There has been too much play on the Harding and Kerrigan case.'' Mr. William Wanklyn agreed there was too much focus on the two top ice skaters.

"They are playing too much on what is going on with Harding and Kerrigan. But the coverage is good because you see the winners.'' Mr. Stephen Smith said: "It's pro-American as usual. It's also been biased too much on the Harding and Kerrigan case.'' Mr. Arthur Wade said that the coverage was good because if he didn't get it on one station he could get it on the other.

Miss Susan Buser said: "The coverage sucks. It's too biased, too Americanised. I'd like to see more events and not too many profiles.'' But Mr. Edward Burchall said that it was wonderful. "I have no problems with it.'' There were also complaints about too much advertising which interrupted the viewing of events.

Mrs. Anna Gallagher said: "There are too many ads, especially this past Wednesday night. It was really crazy. But other than that I've enjoyed it.'' Miss Raynette Raynor also said the coverage of the Olympics had been disrupted by the constant breaks for advertising.

Mr. Peter Russell feels the Olympics are a joy to watch. "The coverage is great. It's a lot of fun to watch.'' Mr. Fred Swan preferred the Canadian station when watching the Olympics. Ms Katie Booth said she preferred ABC's coverage of the Olympics. "CBS did horrible coverage. It's terrible. I'm not pleased with it at all. ABC is up close and personal.'' And Mr. Harold Aitken said that he felt the coverage was fairly good but a little too Americanised.
