Motorcyclist in collision with jeep

A 37-year-old St. George's man sustained serious abdominal injuries after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a jeep.

Around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, a 37-year-old Southampton man was driving a jeep east on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Lighthouse Road when he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a wall. He then collided with the St. George's man on a motorcycle and the jeep was turned onto its side.

The driver of the jeep was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and the motorcyclist was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and was in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact Sergeant Joel Braithwaite at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010 or the main Police number, 295-0011.

And in a second road traffic accident due to impaired driving in three days, a 35-year-old Southampton man sustained a broken pelvis and lacerations to his chin and right leg after he was hit by a car. Police arrived near the junction of Jones Lane and Harbour Road in Warwick for a report of an accident involving a car and motorcycle.

The 35-year-old motorcyclist appeared to be driving West on Harbour Road and the car was travelling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided.

While the Southampton man was taking to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment, the 22-year-old Sandy's parish man was not injured and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged, with the car suffering the most to the front.
