China's growth is real and sustainable according to Chinese entrepreneur, William Xin.

Speaking at a luncheon hosted by ACE Bermuda Limited and Milligan-Whyte & Smith, Mr. Xin gave an overview of China's economic progress to date and gave a glowing account of future growth prospects.

Mr. Xin is the co-founder of start-up company, BchinaB Inc.

The company acts as a go-between for US purchasers and Chinese manufacturers of plastics and seeks to alleviate supply chain issues through local supervision intermediaries.

Mr. Xin was a university student during the pro-democracy movement of 1989 and had to flee China during the Tiananmen Square crackdown. He went into exile in the US and attended Yale University, studying physics and later completing an MBA.

He then pursued a finance career before setting up BchinaB Inc in New York.

Mr. Xin describes himself as one of a new generation of US educated Chinese who will act as "the link between China and the world".

He says that China's handling of the 2001 Asian currency crisis won them international respect and with US$316 billion in reserves, Mr. Xin suggests that China has sufficient capital reserves to withstand another round of economic instability.

Unfortunately he did not touch on the subject which local business people came to hear, that is how western companies can do business China and whether there will be any role for Bermuda in the globalisation of China.

However, the statistics that he relayed including annual Gross Domestic Product of 9.9 percent, may serve to whet the appetites of local business people.

ACE chief executive, Brian Duperreault, concluded the luncheon with the remark that if they hadn't done so already, international companies should look closely at their China strategy.
