Wanted: singers for a new tourism film

appear in a new promotional film to be used to market the Island in North America, the United Kingdom and Europe.

The film is to be narrated by Mr. David Ogden Stiers, the American actor most noted for his role as Dr. Charles Winchester on the hit television programme M*A*S*H. He also narrated the video of the making of the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast.

Students of the Menuhin Foundation senior music centre, a gospel choir and other performing artists will play a major role in the film, providing an opportunity to position the Island very specifically as a "sophisticated, cultured, genteel society'', Tourism Director Mr. Gary Phillips said.

He added that one of the objectives of the film, to replace Bermuda -- The Life In a Day produced in 1988, is to feature as many Bermudians as possible.

It will be shot by The Partners' Film Company of Toronto who also produced the Life In a Day film. On-Island production support will be provided by Panatel VDS Ltd.

Mr. Ogden Stiers is also an accomplished symphony conductor and will lead the Menuhin Foundation in their performance in the film, said Mr. Phillips.

The musical score used in the new film will be based on the Beatles' classic composition In My Life.

"Bermuda represents quality, proven value and reliability to great numbers of past and prospective visitors,'' Mr. Phillips said. "The combination of Bermudians, Mr. Ogden Stiers and his association with a televised programme with a reputation for the highest integrity and a classic popular composition whose lyrics so clearly describe why one returns to a person, place or thing of value -- provides us with a potent and innovative tool with which to reach our target market.'' The film is to be completed by the end of the year and released in early 1993.
