Tremendous comeback by Prospect

(after extra time) The cliche that the game is not over until the final whistle ran true last night in the Second Division Shield match at BAA field when Prospect scored twice in the last six minutes to force extra time on their way to a deserved victory.

Eagles' 2-0 lead would have been wiped out much earlier in the second half had it not been for the framework and some important saves by their goalkeeper Tyrone Simons, which left Prospect wondering what they had to do to score.

Eagles certainly had no problems finding the net in the first half, as Everett Wellman broke the deadlock after just six minutes. The second goal came seven minutes from the end of the first half when Antoine Brangman picked up possession in front of the Prospect defence and slipped through before keeping his composure to beat the advancing Andrew Bissell with a low shot.

Prospect stepped up the pressure early in the second half as a Dwayne Leverock shot was cleared off the line and from the resulting corner the ball was again blocked on the line as the Eagles defence lived dangerously.

Two Prospect substitutions in the second half proved decisive as Andrew Rollins came on for Terry Thomas and later Cal Smith replaced Stevie Lightbourne, just moments after his left-footed shot was brilliantly saved by the diving Simons. From the corner Lightbourne's header hit the far post.

Simons was finally beaten when a long ball into the Eagles penalty area in the 84th minute saw Smith lob the ball over Simons with a header.

Less than a minute later Prospect were back on level terms when Peter Philpott scored with a low shot. He almost hit the winner two minutes after that when his header hit the crossbar.

Eagles lost defender Frank Smith during the later stages of the second half, sent off by referee Dennis Wainwright for swearing.

Prospect wrapped up the win with goals early in each period of extra time, with the go-ahead goal coming 90 seconds into the first period when Leverock scored from a goalmouth scramble and then two minutes into the second period Philpott scored with a rocket into the far corner with Simons well beaten.
