attacked for the second time in less than a week by a Magistrate.

And he said Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King was directing his frustration at the wrong people.

Mr. Pearce spoke out yesterday after Mr. King criticised the AG's Chambers for delaying the justice process in the case of a man accused of robbing Harrington Hundreds grocery store.

Wilson, 25, of Friswell's Hill, Pembroke, has been charged with being armed with a machete and trying to rob cashier Leone Woolridge.

He has also been accused of unlawfully wounding co-owner Anthony Aguiar, intending to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was also charged with disguising himself by wearing a face mask with intent to commit the crime. Wilson has not been required to enter a plea since the charge are indictable and must be heard in the Supreme Court.

But when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday for mention, Crown counsel Leighton Rochester said some of the papers were not ready to be served and asked for an additional two weeks.

"Get the ducks in a row and then march him across the street, this (delay) is foolishness,'' Mr. King said. "If this man is found not guilty he would have spent all of this time locked up.'' Last week Mr. King said people were having to wait too long for papers to be served.

"Something's wrong at the AG's Chambers and you know my mouth doesn't have a cover,'' he said after an accused person had been waiting more than a month for papers to be served.

"Defence lawyers have to prepare a case overnight, and these nine-to-five people have got to start working overtime too,'' Mr. King continued. "After all they're getting paid per annum.

"There are a lot of cats over there, they'd better start mousing.'' Yesterday, however, Mr. Pearce told The Royal Gazette that his Chambers had no control over the papers -- which are witness statements -- as they were prepared by the Police.

And he said it was unfortunate that the AG's Chambers took the "hit'' for the delays.

"The Police prepare those statements and they prepare them as fast as they can,'' Mr. Pearce said.

However, he agreed with Mr. King that it was important to get the papers to the defence in a timely fashion.

BY-ELECTION SET FOR SEPTEMBER 18 PTL By-election set for September 18 The Corporation of St. George's will hold a by-election for a common councillor on September 18, following the death of Leon (Jimmy) Williams.

Mr. Williams, PLP MP for St. George's North, also sat as one of five councillors on the nine-member Corporation.

Corporation Secretary Larry Jacobs said that candidates must submit their nomination papers by September 11.

They must also be registered as voters by August 28 and be able to prove they are not in tax arrears, he said.
