Schoolkids set for `body walk'
Bermuda's Body Walk Health Fair during Nutrition Week.
Primary five pupils from the Island's schools will be invited to take part in the body walk as a fun way of learning about health and nutrition.
The children will "enter'' the body through a large mouth and travel through seven stations before being "exhaled'' from the lungs.
Some interesting characters will be encountered along the way -- a rock band from Warwick Academy representing the stomach, Tin Man (heart), construction workers from Mount St. Agnes (bones) and an exercise enthusiast (muscles).
Many Health Department nurses, dental staff and the Bermuda Dietetic association dietitians will also be manning the stations.
The Body Walk is one of the activities of Nutrition Week which runs from Sunday until the following Sunday.
The objectives are to increase public awareness of the importance of eating a wide selection of fruit and vegetables, and to raise the profile of the dietitian as the recognised authority for nutrition care.
Activities include exercise, various events in schools, leaflets distributed in supermarkets and the Lindo's five mile road race and walkathon. Nutrition Week is being conducted by the Department of Health and the Bermuda Dietetic Association with sponsorship from numerous local companies.
Many businesses, Government departments and the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital have donated props for the event. Inmates at Casemates Prison have built the mouth and various other body parts.
