Soldiers defended the Island from a terrorist attack at the weekend.

It was, however, a fictional attack, for training purposes.

The Bermuda Regiment Alpha Company, Support Company and Training Company took part in Ex March Madness in preparation for this year's Overseas Camp in Jamaica between April 24 and May 7.

Training officer Captain Julian Wheddon said: "The aim of Ex March Madness' was to practice deployment drills, internal security skills, field craft, conventional warfare and sustainability in the field."

The training, in the East End, was aimed at thwarting a terrorist group from attacking shipping on the Eastern Seaboard from Bermuda.

While the Training Company secured key points in Ferry Reach and St. George's to protect them from attack, Alpha Company and Support Company carried out operations to capture or destroy the enemy.

Regiment soldiers not going to this year's camp played the role of enemy combatants with the main action taking place around the Magazine and Martello Tower in Ferry Reach. A final assault then took place on Ferry Island.

On Sunday morning, the Companies then competed for the first Commanding Officer's Regiment Football Trophy.
