Nikki Bascome could make his professional debut on home soil later this year. The 22-year old junior middleweight is expected to turn pro prior to a potential bout against an opponent yet to be announced at Fairmont Southampton on November 29.“Nothing has been finalised, but that’s what we are trying to do and I will be ready for November no matter what,” said Bascome, speaking from his training base in Florida.“I’m just trying to focus on going pro and stepping it up. I’ve always dreamed about turning pro and hopefully my dream comes true and everything goes well.“I’m really excited about turning pro and I want to make sure everything is right step by step. I don’t want to go rushing in because being a pro is different from amateur. It’s a whole new level that I’m trying to reach so I want to do things right.”The orthodox fighter, who has been trained by veteran trainer and former pro Allen (Forty) Rego for the past several years, has been sparring with professional boxers in the ring since returning to his training base in Florida earlier this month.“I’ve been doing a lot of sparring with pros and getting the rounds in and learning new things,” Bascome said. “I’ve learned a lot and a lot of people out here are saying I’m ready to go pro, and I feel I’m ready to take the big step in my life and my boxing career. I just want everything to go well.”Should November’s bout come off as planned it would mark Bascome’s second fight in Bermuda. In February he cruised to a convincing points win over Argentina’s Matthew Abregu on the undercard of Teacher’s Rugby Fight Night 15 ‘The Rematch’ at Berkeley Institute Gym.
