Rudy Lamar Smith, 22, of Parsons Road, also denied a charge of obstructing a Police officer.

He appeared before Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons with a cut eye and bruises, moving lawyer Mr. Richard Hector to suggest Police brutality.

Madeline Rampersad, 56, and Jose Madeiros, 32, of Point Finger Road, Paget also faced charges of obstruction and aiding Smith in his attempt to escape.

Both Rampersad and Madeiros pleaded not guilty.

Mr. Hector appeared for all three.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told Ms Simmons that the three defendants were involved in an incident with a Police officer in Pembroke.

Mr. Hector told the magistrate that part of his defence would involve a complaint against the Police.

"Some of these officers should be put on a leash. I'm very displeased, and some senior officers saw this going on and turned a blind eye.'' Ms Simmons set bail at $800 for each defendant, and set the matter down for trial on June 2.
