A well-struck century by Bailey?s Bay opener Cal Dill jr combined with some solid bowling from his team-mates proved too much to handle for last season?s two-day league runners-up Western Stars in this Premier Division clash at St. John?s Field over the weekend.

Stars? defeat meant they will be playing First Division cricket next season.

Bay had Dill to thank for the fine start he gave them on Saturday with his innings of 103. Bay went on to score an emphatic innings and two run victory, wrapping things up by lunch yesterday.

While Bay?s bowlers also played a major role in the convincing victory, it was Dill who stole the spotlight.

Despite losing his opening partner, Tywon Burgess (4), with just 11 runs to the total, Dill stayed around to put on 81 with Desmond Crockwell who contributed 22.

He was then the dominant partner in two further stands until he was dismissed with the score on 151.

Dill?s highest knock of the season came off 168 balls and saw him strike two sixes and 13 fours.

Also among the runs were Rodney Trott with 47 and teenager Terryn Fray who was run out on 28.

Gershon Gibbons was the best bowler for Stars with three wickets for 56 off 19 overs with seven maidens.

Frustration set in early for Stars when their first wicket ? Don Vickers (3) ? fell with the score on six and it proved a huge battle for them to just reach the century mark.

Jacobi Robinson was Stars? top bat with 28 while Maurice Lowe followed on 20 and Dericko Hollis 17.

Burton Outerbridge had the best figures for Bay, taking three for 22 off 10 overs with three maidens while David Lovell claimed three for 35 off nine overs with two maidens.

Rodney Trott snatched two for 19 off 9.2 overs and Kearon Trott two for 29 off 10 overs with one maiden.

This foursome continued to dominate after Stars were dismissed in 38.2 overs and were asked to follow on.

Openers Vickers and Gibbons put on 51, Vickers scoring 33 and Gibbons 21 as Stars got off to a much better start this time around.

But once Kearon Trott had Vickers caught behind the collapse began. Of the remaining batsmen only two reached double figures with Robinson scoring 15 and T.Hamid 10. Stars succumbed in just 33.4 overs.

Lovell was the top gun for Bay this time around, taking four for 26 off 7.4 overs while Rodney Trott had two for none off three overs of which all were maidens while Kearon Trott claimed two for 36 off nine overs with a maiden.
