resulted in $80,000 worth of damage, the Fire Service said yesterday.

The fire at the Par-la-Ville Road house early on Sunday morning was one of 22 calls which firefighters responded to over the weekend.

Five required emergency special services including the house fire.

Fire prevention officer Lt. Malcolm Johnson said yesterday the house fire was caused by an electrical fault in the basement.

The estimated damage includes heat and fire damage to the whole house. The basement and two bedrooms were gutted and wooden floors, electrical circuits, clothes and furniture were destroyed, said Fire Department spokesman Lt.

An unoccupied bedroom suffered the worst damage but the occupant was staying overnight at his brother's house when the fire broke out.

"He was lucky,'' commented Lt. Caisey.

One minor injury due to smoke inhalation was reported and oxygen was administered.

The first of six Fire Department vehicles and 16 fire fighters arrived at the scene within three minutes. They contained the fire within half an hour.

Other calls reported this weekend included a number of road traffic accidents.

A woman cyclist who lost control of her bike in Prospect, Devonshire was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with suspected neck injuries.
