Human rights groups praised

of Assembly on Friday.Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan praised organisers of the Human Rights service on Thursday and Community and Cultural Affairs Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons asked the Lower House to send congratulations to the Human Rights Commission which held its annual forum on Thursday night at Cathedral Hall.Sir John also asked the House to send congratulations to Bermudian Mr. Warren Cabral for his "Sinbad'' pantomime production, and to the cast.

Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan praised organisers of the Human Rights service on Thursday and Community and Cultural Affairs Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons asked the Lower House to send congratulations to the Human Rights Commission which held its annual forum on Thursday night at Cathedral Hall.

Sir John also asked the House to send congratulations to Bermudian Mr. Warren Cabral for his "Sinbad'' pantomime production, and to the cast.

He also praised the Bank of Bermuda for producing an historical digest called "The First 1,000 miles''.

Miss Jennifer Smith (PLP) congratulated businessman Mr. Terry Roberts who this week was voted in as the newest common councillor on the Corporation of St.

George's.

Miss Smith noted that Mr. Roberts was following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps. He is the son of former St. George's mayor Mr. Norman Roberts.

Education Minister the Hon. Gerald Simons asked that congratulations be sent to Paget Primary teacher and Opposition member Mr. Ottiwell Simmons' wife, Betty, on her new book.

Mr. Simons said the book "God's Child'' would help children realise they belonged to God.

He also asked that congratulations be sent to the organisers of Child Aid last Wednesday.

Mr. Simons asked the House to send condolences to the family of the late Mrs.

Olive Louise Smith, wife of Mr. Earlston Smith.

Mr. Stuart Hayward (Ind) asked that congratulations be sent to Aquarium curator Dr. Wolfgang Sterrer on his new book, "Bermuda's Marine Life'', a layman's guide to marine life in Bermuda.

And Mr. Hayward also asked that congratulations be sent to Mrs. Sheelagh Cooper on her new book "Child Maltreatment in Bermuda: Strategies for Detection, Protection, Intervention and Treatment of Children in Bermuda''.

Mr. Dennis Lister (PLP) asked the House to send congratulations to national football team coach Mr. Gary Darrell.

"Even though Sunday's game was our finale, the performance that was shown by our young men was surely a testimony of their commitment to go out in style,'' he said.

Mr. Nelson Bascome (PLP) asked to be associated with Mr. Hayward's remarks about Mrs. Cooper's book.

He also asked the House to send congratulations to the Single Parents In Action group for its efforts.

Mr. Ottiwell Simmons (PLP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of the late Mr. James Chandler who worked as an administrator at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Simmons said: "He contributed tremendously to the running of the hospital. He was solely responsible for bringing the hospital into modern times'' by training black nurses.

PLP MP Mr. Stanley Lowe asked that congratulations be sent to Mr. and Mrs.

James Furbert of Cherry Hill Park, Paget, who recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.
