A builder was partially buried under a mound of earth when a wall collapsed on a building site in Southampton yesterday.

Bobcat operator Neville Glasgow, who witnessed the accident, was filling in space behind a basement wall at a home in Lighthouse Lane when the wall collapsed on the man, whose name has not been made public.

Mr. Glasgow said: ?The wall went down and I jumped down quick and noticed him down in the corner. He was walking after we got him out. He was all right.?

Construction boss John DeSilva of DeSilva?s Construction said: ?He?s fine. He was submerged up to about his knees.?

He said the worker had suffered cuts and bruising but no broken bones.

?I don?t know why it happened and don?t really want to comment. The construction is as per the drawing.?

Fire Service spokesman Dana Lovell said the man had said one of the concrete blocks used in the wall hit had him on the head.

Health and Safety Inspector Harry Powell said he was investigating the incident.
