Smith strike puts Cougars on top

Devonshire Cougars 1 Mark Smith got the winner to send Cougars joint top of the First Division at St David's yesterday.

Smith struck in only the third minute of the game as three players got their marching orders in the second half.

First to go was Parish's Shannon Bell in the 60th minute and Parish were down to nine men 12 minutes from time when Tajmal Webb was ordered off.

Cougars' Kyjuam Smith completed the disgraced trio when he was dismissed for a second bookable offence three minutes later.

Social Club 4 St. George's 2 Social Club bounced back from two successive 5-0 defeats to beat St. George's at Bernard Park yesterday.

Dennis Russell opened the scoring for the Bluebirds in the 10th minute before Gregory Johnson equalised for St. George's in the 26th. Russell scored a second goal in the 43rd minute and then Eric Dunkley netted the third in the 50th.

Neil Paynter scored St. George's' second goal and after a couple of near-misses from the east enders, Social Club put the points in the bag with a well-taken goal in the 77th minute by substitute Michael Parsons who raced through on the right before firing past Detroy Smith at the near post.

Yesterday's match at Police Field between Prospect and Paget was called off because the field was not marked and the game between Somerset Eagles and division leaders Ireland Rangers was abandoned (see story, Page 21).
