The National Training Board will host an expo tomorrow for Bermudians struggling to find work.

Labour Minister David Burch said the expo is called 'Reinvent Yourself' and will take place at the Bermuda College gymnasium.

"This Government believes that every Bermudian who is seeking employment, and who has a genuine desire to work in a field of their choosing, should have unfettered access to the right tools, the right training and the right guidance which will help fulfil that goal.

"And we are willing to work with anyone who is sincerely seeking this help. We want to provide them with the opportunities and put them in contact with the right people so that they can get their career on the right track."

Minister Burch said the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will showcase technical careers.

"This event, specifically designed to showcase trades in the technical professions, demonstrates the coming together of Government and the private sector in a partnership to present employment options to high school students, displaced young adults and those looking for a career change.

"The NTB Expo will include a number of industries, businesses and entrepreneurs promoting their relevant trades — all with the express aim of educating participants on the various career paths and opportunities available in Bermuda."

Some of the partners include Bermuda College, BELCO, Bermuda Motors, Bermuda Fire and Rescue Services, HWP and more.

The Minister said those attending will be able to see:

¦ Trade displays showcasing various disciplines such as plumbing, carpentry, culinary arts and mechanics,

¦ Promotion of various accredited and affiliated educational institutions.

¦ Booths showcasing trades, academic/technical institutional recommendations and available posts within those industries.

There will also be tours of the Bermuda College Campus in an effort to entice them to study at our local institution of higher learning.

Minister Burch continued: "Ultimately, we believe that initiatives such as these, which identify, train and provide Bermudians with the opportunity to succeed in a technical career, will encourage employers to seek talent from the pool within, as opposed to going overseas, thus lessening the opportunity gap between Bermudians and non-Bermudians.

"So today I am encouraging every Bermudian in search of work, from the young and not so young, to come to the Bermuda College Gymnasium this Thursday so that the National Training Board can assist you in 'Reinventing' yourself.

"If you are serious about being employable then come and discover what you need to do to attain the skills required to be successful in obtaining the jobs of the future."
