Police warn of surge in burglaries

The Bermuda Police Service is calling for the public to secure their homes after a rash of burglaries.A Police spokesman said last night that the service has seen a surge in burglaries, specifically in Hamilton Parish, Warwick and Sandys. The majority of the burglaries occurred while the residents were at work, and jewellery and electronics have been the most frequently stolen items. The public is asked to ensure that windows and doors are locked, air conditioners are secured and valuables are kept in a safe or safety deposit box. The public are also asked to be on the lookout for suspicious individuals in their neighbourhoods.“Remember, thieves are opportunist and travel down the path of least resistance,” the spokesman said. “Take away the opportunity and minimise your risk.”For more information about crime prevention, visit www.bermudapoliceservice.bm.
