Tonya, who is in Year M2, beat off eight other contestants to become General Jeopardy champion earlier this month.

The competition, organised by the school's English Resource teacher Shawnette Somner, was based on the TV gameshow Jeopardy.

The students had to learn 108 general knowledge questions and answers and were then tested on unprepared questions.

Tonya picked up a stash of prizes for her victory, including books and a name chain.

Kristen Darrell (M2) and TanyaLynn Bailey (M1) took second and third places respectively.

After the event Mrs. Somner said: "I am very proud of all the contestants and I am also very grateful to all the businesses who were quick to express their delight in supporting our school.

"The students felt like real Jeopardy contestants.''
