Devonshire man denies assault on security officer

Police lead away Jeremy Williams, accused of brandishing a hatchet in a Hamilton store last weekend. Williams attempted to resist the Police.

A man who allegedly brandished a hatchet in MarketPlace at the weekend and assaulted a security officer appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Jeremy Williams, of Devonshire, pleaded not guilty to three offences related to the incident and elected for his trial to be heard in Magistrates' Court. He was charged with unlawfully wounding the security officer on March 25, possessing an article with a blade or point in public and being armed in public in such a manner as to cause terror.

The 41-year-old was remanded in custody until his trial on May 1. After being handcuffed and escorted out of the court house he appeared to struggle with officers who were leading him to the Hamilton Police Station.
