Funds have gone to a worthy cause, says Wells

Bradford City striker Nahki Wells has thanked all those who helped raise money for Dandy Town’s youth football programme.Nearly $1,300 dollars from proceeds of food and beverages sold during a live screening at Cedarbridge Aacdemy of Bradford’s League Cup Final clash with Swansea at Wembley Stadium was donated to Town’s youth programme by event organisers Veterans in Action on behalf of former Hornets player Wells.“It’s good to hear that they raised nearly $1,300 and I know how difficult it is to round up money nowadays in Bermuda for football,” Wells told The Royal Gazette. “It’s good to know that the money is going to my childhood club.“I wish we could’ve raised more but $1,300 can do a lot for Dandy Town and hopefully in the future I can continue to help Dandy Town to grow as a club and help the youth programme move forward.“I thought it (fundraiser) was a great idea and hopefully in the future other things can be put together to help Dandy Town.”Western Stars Sports Club president Wayne Campbell added: “It’s a great gesture from Nahki and I’m sure it’s a first at any club where they’ve had a player overseas that’s done something like this for a club they’ve come from.”Wells became only the third Bermudian to play at Wembley but the first at the new stadium during last month’s League Cup Final.Bradford went into League Cup Final history for all the wrong reasons after coming out on the wrong end of a humbling 5-0 defeat at the hands of a Swansea side that controlled proceedings from start to the finish.Wells, 22, is Bradford’s current leading goal scorer with 18 goals, including three in his team’s amazing run in the League Cup.Bradford are the first fourth tier side to reach a major English domestic cup final in 51 years.
