West ready for challenge
Pro golfer Eric West makes his Tour de las Americas/European Challenge Tour debut today at the $180,000 Colombia Masters in Bogota, Colombia.
The 24 year-old Bermudian is fresh off a string of top three finishes on the Moonlightgolf.com Tour and hasn't come in over par since qualifying for the Tour de las Americas nearly two-months ago.
West has yet to fully recover from back spasms that plagued him last week in Florida but is nonetheless confident heading into the opening round.
"My back doesn't feel that good to be honest. I'm taking a lot of advil and doing a lot of stretching," he said.
"But I feel good, a little nervous, but confident.
"I just need to go out there and play my game and just accept whatever happens. I need to stay patient and just think target golf rather than score.
"My attitude towards the game and life has been good so I just want to stay on that path and hit confident shots.
"If I can be 100 percent committed to each shot I take this week I will be content with whatever scores I post."
West blew hot and cold with the putter in his previous outing but since then has spent hours practicing his putting stroke on the greens.
"My putting feels good. This week I will have to really focus on my (putting) speed because the greens here are much different than the Bermuda grass I am used to playing on in Florida," he said.
"The grass is really healthy and the greens are extremely fast."
