In Magistrates' Court on Monday, Gerkimo Gardener, 22, of Pembroke admitted damaging a car.

The court heard from Crown counsel Michael McColm that on March 2, Police noticed a small group of young people gathered outside of KFC on Queen Street and it was reported that Gardener had caused damage to the rear view mirror and the window of a Yaris parked nearby.

Gardener's ex-girlfriend told Police that he damaged the car, the damage totalled $1,102, and that Jonathan Place owned the car.

Gardener was later arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he admitted to the offences. "I was out and my ex-girlfriend started harassing me," he said. "She threw my cell phone down an alley and then punched me in the face.

"I got mad and lost control. I called the lady (Jonathan Place's mother and owner of the car) to apologise and everything is okay," Gardener told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay the $1,102 for the car damage.
