Thirty-year-old Wassenaar overcame Donawa, three years his junior, by 34 seconds, winning in 25.57.
Tracy Wright finished third, the 36-year-old coming in a minute and 14 seconds behind Donawa to clock 27.45.
The women's race was something of a cakewalk for Anna Eatherley, whose time of 29.23 put her almost two and a half minutes ahead of her nearest challenger, Lynn Patchett.
Patchett clocked 31.58 while third-placed Victoria Fiddick managed 33.29.
In the junior races, the 12-and-under female winner was Flora Duffy and male winner Coyotito Smith.
Mark Morrison led home the 13-15 male field, while Chloe Kempe was first in the same age group in the girls' race.
