Spinners Eugene Foggo, David Adams and Del Hollis skidded out a weakened St.

David's team for just 77 runs in 33.2 overs as St. George's won their first trial match of the season on Saturday by five wickets at St. David's.

Neither team was at full strength as St. George's were without Cup Match players Noel Gibbons, Arnold Manders, Allan Douglas, Graham Fox and Anthony Braithwaite while St. David's were missing Allen Richardson, Shea Pitcher, Oliver Pitcher and Cecil Pitcher as scorer George O'Brien made up the number and kept wicket.

St. David's, winning the toss and batting first, were led by Dean Pitcher's top knock of 28 while Philip Pitcher (15) and Lionel Cann (19) were the other players in double figures. Foggo had his best figures of the season, four for eight from 2.3 overs while Adams took two for 10 from seven overs and Hollis two for 30 from nine.

St. George's lost five wickets in reaching their target after Foggo (12) and Dennis Archer (21) put on 39 for the first wicket.

Dale Fox, in his second match back from injury, grabbed two wickets in as many deliveries by first bowling Archer with a good delivery and then knocking back Clay Smith's stumps first ball.

Glenn Smith hit four boundaries in his knock of 20 before being bowled by spinner Bruce Foggo trying to hit the winning runs.

Foggo finished with three for 13 from four overs to lead the St. David's bowling while Fox, who gave up nine runs in his first over, finished with two for 22 from seven overs. St. George's reached their target in 18.1 overs.

St. George's have planned further trial matches for the next two Saturdays.

This weekend they take on Bailey's Bay at Wellington Oval at 10 a.m. in the Cal Wade Memorial and on June 11 plan to take on the St. David's county cup team.

Both Bay and St. David's will use those matches as a build-up to their first-round Eastern Counties Cup match on July 18.
