Governor hopes garden openings will continue

The gardens at Government House will no longer be open to the public on Sundays after this weekend.

The grounds have been accessible on Sundays from 12-5pm since April 27 and have been visited by numerous residents and visitors.

Governor George Fergusson said he and his wife Margaret had enjoyed meeting those who had gone to see the gardens and that he hoped to open them again next summer.

“My wife and I were pleased to hear of all the people who visited Government House grounds during the Sunday openings and took advantage of this wonderful area — and even more pleased to meet some of them,” Mr Fergusson said.

“Our visitors were extremely respectful not only of the grounds themselves, but also of the gardens being run by students from the three Pembroke Parish primary schools — Victor Scott, West Pembroke and Northlands.

“We hope to be able to continue the Sunday openings next summer.”
