FA Cup delayed by team's return
evening of the Bermuda team from the British Virgin Islands, tonight's FA Cup quarter-final doubler-header at St. John's Field has been put back to tomorrow night.
Three players involved in the weekend's World Cup qualifier will now have time to rejoin their teams. Otherwise the trio, Bermuda and Devonshire Colts captain Shannon Burgess, Vasco's Clifford Roberts and Paul Cann of Dandy Town, would not have returned in time to play.
Last year's finalists, Devonshire Colts and Dandy Town, face opponents of different quality as they bid for another spot in the last four.
Colts meet Commercial League team MR Onions in the 7.00 opener while the feature match between Town and Vasco will be a repeat of last year's quarter-final which Town won 3-1.
Both teams have consistently reached the quarter-final stage of this competition, Vasco having got this far in the last six seasons, winning three times during that period.
Town reached the quarter-finals eight times in the 1990s, but never went on to win the cup. They have lost four times in the final in the last 10 years.
Colts are aiming for their third straight appearance in the final, but first they must overcome a tricky tie tomorrow against in-form Commercial League team Onions who are at this stage of the competition for the first time.
FA Cup games rescheduled From Page 19 Onions' goalkeeper Andrew Jekyll reached the semi-finals with Robin Hood in 1991 and his experience will be vital if they are to overcome Colts whom he admits will be favourites.
However, Colts were be wary of their opponents, especially after only beating First Division side Devonshire Cougars goal in a replay in an earlier round.
The remaining two semi-final places will be determined on Thursday night at Devonshire Rec. where North Village meet another Commercial team, Lobster Pot, in the 7.00 clash and Social Club of the First Division take on Southampton Rangers in the 9.00 fixture.
The BFA have also put back Friday's league matches to Saturday night. Vasco will meet Dandy Town for the second time this week at BAA Field while the 7.00 opener sees Royals playing Little Venice Rookies in the women's league.
Scheduled for tonight is a women's double-header at Devonshire Rec. where Little Venice play Wolves Girls at 7.00 and Rude Girls take on Prospect at 9.00.
Just one Commercial League match was played on Saturday, PHC Raiders and Exiles playing to a 1-1 draw in an A Division match. Chris Furbert scored for PHC from the penalty spot while Alan Johnson netted for Exiles who have already been relegated to the B Division.
