Despite the struggling economy, New Year’s reservations at Bermuda’s restaurants are filling up fast.While the Island Restaurant Group, which includes Barracuda, Victoria Grill, Pickled Onion and Hog Penny, still has space, New Year’s Eve revellers looking to go out better make plans quickly.“We do expected to be fully booked so people that do want to come should make reservations right away,” said Philip Barnett, president of Island Restaurant Group.The Island Restaurant Group is not having any special menu packages — choosing to stick with their regular menus.“Come on in and enjoy yourself as you would on any other night of the year,” he said. “We’ve discovered that this way has really worked for our customers because so many of our regular customers just want to have a quick bite before going somewhere. Instead of buying a big package deal, they use us as they normally would. And it usually ends up being a sold out night for us.”Pickled Onion has a live band playing, Graffiti Park, as does Hog Penny featuring Will Black along with Keith White.There will be a party with DJ catering to the younger set at the Rumbar on Victoria Street, promoted by venerable party promoter Andrew Holmes.Victoria Grill has a new Southern coastal seasonal menu, which includes items like fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits and fried chicken and waffles.Red co-owner Rick Olson said the restaurant, which overlooks Front Street, was almost fully booked.“Red is full, but we do have room on the patio and bar,” he said, adding, “Bermuda Bistro (at the Beach) has plenty of room and is ready for a big party. We really want to encourage families to come in early for dinner and take advantage of the special for kids under 12.”Also on offer at the Bermuda Bistro are drink specials including two-for-one specials and YGS playing until 3am with free cover charge that includes a welcome cocktail and free champagne at midnight.For those looking to stay out until the wee hours of the morning, Bouchee on Pitts Bay Road is offering an ‘all-nighter breakfast’, opening at 12:30am until 12:30pm New Year’s Day and featuring a codfish special.Spanish Town Entertainment is hosting Hamilton’s New Year’s Eve celebration on Front Street, with dancing, DJ, a movie and food vendors.
