Butterfield has donated $30,000 to The Eliza DoLittle Society to help the charity buy food and maintain its pantry services for households facing financial hardship.

The bank said the funding was expected to provide about a month of grocery support for registered households and help the charity keep supplying nutritious food and needed items.

The Eliza DoLittle Society, founded in 2002, has assisted about 2,433 people — representing 875 households — over the past four years. Those households made 16,096 pantry visits during that period.

Clare Mello-Robinson, the charity’s executive director, said the donation came at an important time.

She said: “Rising food costs, sustained pantry use and ongoing financial pressure have strained the programme, while many households continue to rely on Teds for regular food support.

“Butterfield’s funding will help protect the quality and consistency of grocery support while Teds continues to manage costs responsibly.”

The charity said that food insecurity had increased demand for its services since 2015, while higher grocery prices had also made its work more expensive.
