Bermudian author: Gays should not be ministers
The fervent view that homosexuals should not be ministers is now entrenched in a book 'The Sparks among The Ashes' authored by Bermudian Gwyneth Lightbourne.
In her book Mrs. Lightbourne chronicles "the struggle of the Grace Methodist Church congregation" who were determined to follow their beliefs on the Biblical teachings of John Wesley, founder of Methodism.
The launch of 'The Sparks among The Ashes' saw a huge turnout of supporters and local dignitaries last Sunday. Government MPs Dale Butler and Walter Lister were in attendance as were lawyer Sonia Grant, educator Dr. Muriel Wade-Smith, Elder Austin Thomas of the Evening Light Pentecostal Church, Pastor Karl Pringle of the Somerset Methodist Church, Elder MacDonald Tucker of Harrington Sound Gospel Chapel, Elder John Simmons of White Hill Gospel Chapel, Dudley Burchell of the Wesley Methodist Church and Pastor Dean Smith of the Open Door Christian Assembly.
Willard Lightbourne, husband of the author said that his wife had "painstakingly recalled the step by step battle fought by members of the Grace Methodist Church congregation to fight their Biblical beliefs that their church should not embrace radical changes to have homosexual and lesbian ministers".
"The Sparks among The Ashes highlights how members worked as a team and were fortified by prayer, dedication and hard work to win the battle," he added. "The book details the events as they unfolded and my wife should be commended for ensuring that this important part of history was recorded while it was still fresh in her mind."
The book is on sale at the Christian bookstore and retails for $20.
