Police promote seven constables to Sergeant

Sgts. Gail Correia, Paul Hitchens, Jerome (Jerry) Laws, Steve Nurse, Adam Payne, Hatten Phillips and Martin Weekes were named to their new rank by Commissioner of Police Jean-Jacques Lemay.

Sgts. Gail Correia, Paul Hitchens, Jerome (Jerry) Laws, Steve Nurse, Adam Payne, Hatten Phillips and Martin Weekes were named to their new rank by Commissioner of Police Jean-Jacques Lemay.

Sgt. Correia joined the Bermuda Police Service in 1978 and will now transfer to Central Uniform Branch from her previous post as a Crime Prevention Officer.

Sgt. Hitchens moved to Bermuda from the UK, where he also served as a Police officer, in 1989 and is presently in the Central Uniform Branch.

Sgt. Laws, who joined the Force in 1986, will move from Central Uniform to Central CID Branch following his promotion.

Sgt. Nurse was originally a member of the Barbadian Defence Force but moved to Bermuda and joined the Service in 1984 where he now serves in the Eastern Uniform Branch.

Sgt. Payne is stationed at the other end of the Island in Western Uniform Branch during what is his second stint in the Service. He originally joined up in 1985 but left after two years to serve in the British Army. He returned to the Island in 1990 and rejoined the Police.

Sgt. Phillips has been with the local Police department since 1979 when he left the Barbados Police Force to come to Bermuda. He will move from the National Intelligence Department to his new posting in the Narcotics Department.

And Sgt. Weekes is a Schools Community Officer for the East End of the Island with the Service's REACH programme. He originally became a Police officer with the Kent Constabulary in 1977.
