Dear Sir,

My husband and I were taking a long-anticipated holiday in Bermuda last month, but it came to a sudden and unfortunate end when we were involved in a scooter accident on June 11, 2004 (on South Road near the Southampton Princess).

We were both injured, but are now recovering at home, and while this was a frightening incident we were more than helped at every turn by numerous Bermudans who came to our rescue. We did not have a chance to thank them all, and would like to try to do so here.

Our thanks to the three total strangers who stopped on the road and came to our aid when we crashed, called the proper authorities and took care of us until help arrived. We never had time to learn their names, but it felt like there were angels by our side.

Our thanks to the ambulance and rescue crew that took us to the hospital and the medical personnel in the emergency room that took care of us when we were shaken and hurting. Thanks also to the policemen who were understanding of the situation while still having to do their job.

Our thanks to the people at Marley Beach for helping me while I (Chris) was alone at the cottage, waiting to return home for surgery on my broken arm. Our thanks also to all the doctors, nurses, social workers and staff that took care of my husband (Phil) while he had to stay to recuperate.

Our thanks to all of the people on the buses and in the stores and hospital who also helped me and showed their concern. Thanks to the taxi driver who gave me a free ride back to the cottage when I most needed it ? you know who you are. And our thanks also to the "Pink Ladies" of the Hospital's Auxiliary of Bermuda for coming to our aid and getting us sorted out.

We would not hesitate to come back to Bermuda, but not because of the scenery (which is extraordinarily beautiful) or the attractions (which are joys), but because of the people, who are absolutely wonderful. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts.
