'Rocky Horror Picture Show' coming to Island
The Bermuda Junior Service League (BJSL) has teamed up with the Bermuda International Film Festival (BIFF) for the BJSL's major fundraising event of 2008.
They will present a fundraising film screening of the cult favourite, 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show', on Saturday, February 23 at Liberty Theatre.
The screening begins at 11.30 p.m., with a pre-party kicking off at 10.30 p.m.
An old favourite of late-night filmgoers, Rocky Horror Picture Show was released in 1975 and almost immediately became a cult classic.
It stars Susan Sarandon (Janet) and Barry Bostwick (Brad) as newlyweds who are stranded when their car breaks down. They seek refuge at the castle of Dr. Frank 'N Furter (Tim Curry), a mad scientist from the planet Transsexual.
Brad and Janet arrive on the special night that Dr. Furter's beautiful creature, Rocky, the Adonis humanoid created for the release of Frank's "tension", is to be born. What follows is action-packed romance, Transylvanian parties, thrills and chills, lots of laughs and 16 great songs, including 'The Time Warp', 'Sweet Transvestite' and 'Whatever Happened to Saturday Night'?
"We are inviting everyone to dress up as their favourite character in the film, and have some fun," says BJSL president Susan Smith. "Anyone who has been to a screening of Rocky Horror knows that it's a sing-a-long party, and everyone has a great time."
The BJSL is also holding a raffle with proceeds to be split between BIFF and the BJSL, which will pass along its share of the proceeds to other Bermuda charities. The event is sponsored by Burrows Lightbourn and Barritt's.
Tickets, $50 including the pre-party, are available from BJSL members, from the BIFF office or at www.boxoffice.bm.
