Masters make it a merry Christmas

Bowled over! Sunshine League executive director Denise Carey receives a cheque from Bermuda Masters vice-president Gerald Bean as fellow Masters Braxton Stowe (second from left) and Lloyd Morrison look on.

Bermuda Masters cricketers have played their part in spreading a little Christmas cheer this year, raising funds which will go towards the purchase of a new computer and computer software at the Sunshine League children's home.

The goodwill ambassadors raised $1,200 in donations and earlier this week presented Sunshine League executive director, Denise Carey, with the cash at the charity's King Street, Hamilton headquarters.

"We do what we can for charity we will . . . and Christmas is always a good time to give," commented Bermuda Masters vice-president Gerald Bean. "With the public's support, the Bermuda Masters were able to raise donations that will now be used to purchase a new computer for Sunshine League."

The Masters, winners of the 2006 Antigua Independence 20/20 Cricket Festival, have also contributed to other charities in the past, such as the Matilda Smith-Williams Home where they offered their services to upgrade the facility.

Last year the squad finished runners-up behind England Masters at the West End Masters Tournament in the UK and next year will travel to Cape Town, South Africa for a four-match tour.

Plans are also in the pipeline that could see the veteran cricketers compete against Bermuda's senior and Under -19 national teams for a trophy honouring the late Masters manager Warrington (Soup) Zuill, who died earlier this year.
