the Y2K situation as it relates to Bermuda early next week.

Head of the Information Systems Audit Control Association, Derrell Folk noted that although "nothing really died'' on January 1 many businesses may still not feel that they are in the clear.

"Although nothing really died we'll be trying to determine if it is really over,'' he said.

"We'll also look at what, if any, problems are perceived for the month end and then the February 29 date. Any potential problems that may be associated with the leap year, and what initiatives and programmes businesses put on hold.

"We also want to find out if businesses are continuing to keep some of their projects on hold until after February 29 and what their intentions are in terms of pursuing their plans after the 29th.'' Mr. Folk said the meeting will take a broad view of Y2K and will also seek to discover from the businesses, "where they perceive IT going from here'' and if the local market will be stuck with a surplus of IT professionals.

Anyone interested in attending the January 20 meeting at 5:30 p.m. should contact Derrell Folk at 298 4732.

The meeting will take place at the Bank of Bermuda's Compass Point Building.
