Man ordered to compensate theft victim

A Warwick man had his probation extended yesterday after he was caught breaking into a bike on CCTV.

Jamie Cann Jr, 19, an employee of The Royal Gazette, pleaded guilty earlier this month to stealing a shopping bag of items from a motorcycle seat and causing damage to the vehicle’s seat in the process. Cann was reportedly arrested on the scene, and the stolen bag and its contents were recovered.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court, Cann, who was on probation at the time of the crime, asked the court for leniency, calling the incident “a stupid decision”.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered the defendant pay $300 in restitution to the victim and extended his probation until May 29, 2016, warning Cann that he would find himself behind bars if he appears before the courts again.
