Trojans must stay focussed -- Hunt
against Devonshire Colts at PHC tonight (9.00) is for the west-enders to remain focussed.
Coach Larry Hunt finds himself in the unenviable position of having to find replacements for forwards Jerry Webb and Dwight Basden, who are both on crutches, but he feels that they can pull off victory if the players concentrate on nothing but winning.
But while Somerset are forced to find replacements for the injured players, Devonshire Colts coach Lorenzo Symonds was last night putting defenders Chris Wright, Jahmal Samuels and Keishon Smith through strenuous fitness tests to see whether they would be ready for the game.
It is going to be hard for the Trojans to forget their agonising 4-1 league defeat against Devonshire Colts on February 14, but coach Larry Hunt feels that it is important for his squad to quash memories of that setback if they are to perform to their capabilities this time around.
"We must remain focussed on nothing but the job ahead,'' said Hunt. "All I want my players to do is to remain sharp. If they do then I am confident that we can pull it off.
"They have beaten us twice in the league this season, but we beat them in the Dudley Eve (Trophy). Although we lost both league matches we dominated the games but just failed to get the ball in the net.'' Ellington Weldon led Colts in their last meeting with a hat-trick. Reggie Tucker scored the lone Trojans tally.
"We just didn't capitalise on our chances against them in the league matches.
I strongly feel that if our forwards remain sharp we will do fine in this important game,'' said Hunt.
Webb and Basden received injuries in the team's last league game. Webb broke a bone in his ankle and is wearing a cast while Basden strained ligaments in his knee. Their places will probably be filled by Billy Kirkpatrick, young Sean Simmons or Rodney Bascome who himself has missed several matches through an injury.
Despite his concerns about the defence, Colts' Symonds is hoping that his team will continue to improve on their three-game winning streak in which they have scored an impressive total of 11 goals.
"The Trojans are a great cup team and we have to give them respect. We know that we are in for a battle against them, but we remain optimistic,'' said Symonds.
"We are not going to know about the nagging injuries that bother a few players until after tonight's practice session. We have recorded a few good results here lately and are hoping that it will help to carry the team through in this tough tie,'' he added.
Should defenders Wright and Samuels be unavailable, Symonds revealed that he will use teenager Jermel Belboda as a replacement.
Up front, though, Colts have no problems with Weldon and skipper Craig Smith spearheading the attack. "I'm definitely satisfied with our attack, especially since they have been scoring regularly,'' said the coach.
The game will be preceded by a Crystal Palace Youth Cup semifinal between North Village and Somerset at 7 p.m.
HAPPY COLTS -- Derek Wright, Leonard Hypolite and Mark Ray will hope to continue in their winning ways when they face Somerset in tonights's FA Cup semifinal at PHC.
