Foul-mouthed motorist escapes with warning

A woman who swore and kicked out at police as they tried to arrest her walked away from court without a criminal conviction yesterday.

Rogernae Lightbourne, 24, of Tommy Fox Road, St David’s, admitted saying to the officer: “F*** you, p***y. I’ll remember your face.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo told her she behaved in a “terrible” manner which wasn’t “ladylike” but added: “I’m not going to convict you of this.”

Giving her an absolute discharge, he said: “I expect it’s not going to happen again.”

Prosecutor Nicole Smith told the court that police came across Ms Lightbourne after stopping at the scene of an accident on Lane Hill on December 27.

“Officers observed a young female yelling and swearing at another male,” she said. “Officers approached the defendant and asked her to lower her voice.”

Ms Smith said Ms Lightbourne, who admitted wilfully obstructing a police officer and using offensive words, told police that her car was “f****** well insured”, asking: “What’s the f****** problem?”

The prosecutor said she continued to yell, preventing the officers from dealing with the accident, and then swore and tried to kick them with her high heels as they put her in the back of their patrol car.

Police deployed Captor spray to control her, added Ms Smith.

Ms Lightbourne, who has no previous convictions, told the court she had been at a Christmas party and was intoxicated. “I want to apologise to the officers on duty that night. There is no excuse for my actions and I’m sorry.”

Mr Tokunbo told her: “You need to skip next Christmas.”
