Police warning as burglaries surge

Police have reported a surge in daytime burglaries across several parishes, with brazen thieves targeting homes that contain jewellery and electronic items.

Police say the increase in break-ins have been noticeable in Pembroke, Paget, Warwick and Hamilton parishes, and are urging residents to secure their homes.

“Any air conditioning units should be secured and it is recommended that all valuables are kept in a safe or safety deposit box,” a police spokesman said.

“In addition, residents are strongly advised to take pictures of all valuables and record all serial numbers of electronic goods. In the event they are stolen and later recovered, those goods can be more easily identified.”

Any suspicious individuals or activity should be reported to the nearest police station or the main police telephone number 295-0011.

“Remember, thieves are opportunist and travel down the path of least resistance — take away the opportunity and minimise your risk,” the spokesman added.
