A correction and apology

Governor George Fergusson

A front page story in Friday’s edition of The Royal Gazette headlined “Police Service ordered to handle Regiment sex allegations” incorrectly stated that the Governor had ordered that a dedicated police officer be tasked with handling sexual misconduct complaints from Bermuda Regiment soldiers.

In fact, the Governor made a request to the Commissioner of Police and the Commissioner took the decision to appoint an officer.

Government House has asked us to point out that the Governor does not have the authority to order the Commissioner of Police to act in an operational capacity.

We are happy to correct the mistake and apologise for the error.
