Young entrepreneurs get chance to shine

Bermuda business whizz children are to get the chance to showcase their talents as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

And today the Bermuda Host Committee will unveil a line-up of activities aimed at spurring creativity among wannabe business leaders.

A spokeswoman for the weeklong series of events said: “With the goal to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity, Global Entrepreneurship Week encourages youth to think big and turn their ideas into reality.”

She added: “In today’s increasingly interconnected world, new entrepreneurial ideas can be born anywhere — but to truly flourish, they must be nurtured.

“Global Entrepreneurship Week will spotlight how young people’s ideas can contribute to global economic development and will give them the tools to put those ideas into practice.”

The celebration of innovation has already kicked off, with the Rocket Pitch Competition — where young entrepreneurs get seven minutes to pitch their ideas in areas like tourism and hospitality or technology and service industries.

They will get the chance to impress a panel of judges on Monday, November 18, the official start of the global week of activities.

Nominations for the TechAwards, which will include recognition for the most innovative youth project and innovation of the year for Bermuda and worldwide, along with the newly-introduced people’s choice award, which will be contested on Facebook between Friday, November 8 and Friday, November 15.

The final of the youth business plan presentations from the 2013 YEI BizCamp will be held when the week is launched in Hamilton.
