PartnerRe launches new windstorm app

Use the data that the experts are using: The PartnerResearch App gives the industry access to detailed meteorological information on storms.

PartnerRe has launched a free app for iPads that makes it possible for insurers to compare historical footprints of over 1,144 windstorms across the North Atlantic Basin and Europe.

The PartnerResearch App gives the industry access to detailed meteorological information on storms.

Users are able to search for storms by name, location or year and bring up personalised storm views on a data set stretching back 113 years.

The app has been specifically developed for property insurance underwriters, insurance portfolio managers, actuaries and intermediaries.

With proprietary analysis and detailed renderings of each storm, this App is a go-to reference for comparing historical footprints with exposures in property insurance portfolios, Bermuda re/insurer PartnerRe said.

At a touch users can recall the path, extent and intensity of 1,144 individual windstorms; view the storm frequency and intensity for a location on a year-by-year basis for up to 113 years; see exactly how many storms have impacted a particular area and how severe they were; and judge the relative potential impacts of storms, eg for Miami, how did the wind field of Hurricane Donna (1960) compare to Hurricane Andrew (1992)?
