St David’s will be looking to bounce back from their Belco Cup final loss and get their league challenge off on the right track tomorrow when they welcome Warwick to Lords in St David’s.The Islanders suffered a 87-run loss to eventual champions Southampton Rangers last week, and will be on the warpath heading into their first league match of the season.“We definitely want to go out there and perform well each game we play no matter who the opposition is,” said St David’s skipper OJ Pitcher. “As everyone knows there is a lot of talk about who the best team is in Bermuda and each team would argue that they are the better team but one thing no one can argue with is stats and St David's have been a consistent team for a decade now winning all trophies there is accept for one, the Belco Cup.“Things at the club have been going very good so far in our lead up to the season. Wendell (Smith) has been putting us through the paces and the players have been responding well.“After a quiet season for our standards last year the team is eager to go and are dedicated to the task at hand as we have set individual goals and team goals. We have a strong team and are hungry for success during this campaign as we have a lot of depth in our batting and bowling departments.”While backing his side to come good in the league campaign, Pitcher pointed to champions Bailey’s Bay as one of their main contenders that will be up there competing for league honours.“Bailey’s Bay will be one of the teams to watch out for, they picked up Tre Manders and he will definitely strengthen their team, but we don't worry about what other teams are doing we focus on us and we know if we perform to our ability no one can stop us.“This year we have also picked up some quality players in the likes of George O'Brien jr and Kameron Fox, who are past squad players and are very knowledgable about the game, as well as MacLaren Lowe, and Clevaughn Darrell who can both bat.“George is a bonus for us as he has the ability to move the ball about at a good pace and has the ability to put fear in batsmen’s eyes.“He helped Willow Cuts to successful seasons over the past few years and with the likes of our senior players alongside him we are looking to take back all honours this year.”The opening weekend schedule sees champions Bailey’s Bay travel to Somerset Cricket Club to clash with Somerset, while newly crowned Belco Cup champions Southampton Rangers welcome Flatts to Southampton Oval.Somerset Bridge take on Cleveland County at White Hill Field, Willow Cuts make the trek to Wellington Oval to lock horns with St George’s, and PHC play Western Stars at PHC Field.Devonshire Rec have a bye.All matches are scheduled to begin at 11am.
