St George’s gets visitors boost

While most eyes were on Dockyard with the arrival of the Breakaway, St George’s was also bustling. In addition to cruise ship visitors who journeyed to the East End, a large number of yachts were visiting the town.“People have been counting and the last count was more than a hundred yachts in the town and harbour,” Mark Soares, of Bermuda Yacht Services, said.“We had a lot on the dock, and we had the most we have ever had on Ordnance Island. It was astounding. It was huge. Huge, huge, huge.“Speaking to the restaurateurs, they are definitely feeling the impact, and a lot of the sailors I’ve spoken to loved it as well. We have one larger yacht waiting for it’s owner because he wants to cruise around Bermuda. That’s exactly the sort of thing we are trying to promote.”Since the Breakaway and Celebrity Summit arrived, Mr Soares said the town has been flooded with minibuses, and the ferries seem to be carrying solid numbers of people into the town. “It’s all looking really good,” he said.
