The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with a popular local website to deliver more tourism-related news and information to visitors, locals and anyone with an interest in the Island. The Chamber announced yesterday it has partnered with ‘Nothing to do in Bermuda?’ (NTIB) — a blog that offers a list of events and activities taking place in Bermuda.NTDIB, which was started in 2010 by British expatriate Claire Hattie, was acquired last fall by the parent company of this newspaper, Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd. Ms Hattie also writes a “Nothing to do in Bermuda?” column for The Royal Gazette. The Chamber of Commerce says the partnership is part of a broader long-term growth strategy for its newly formed Tourism Division. Peter Wilson, the division’s chair, says there’s a real need for one centralised place people can go for tourism related information.“Our members and other key stakeholders have expressed concern and in some sectors genuine frustration, at the absence of a centralised portal for the gathering and distribution of tourism related information both for our visitors and industry partners,” Mr Wilson said.“After considerable consultation with our information technology sector we have determined that in the absence of a national solution our industry partners should take an interim position and agree to use www.nothingtodoinbermuda.com as their primary resource for posting information about tourism-related activities in Bermuda.”NTDIB is a web-based information solution, offering a comprehensive listing of activities taking place in Bermuda. In addition to events being seen by thousands of locals and tourists on the website itself, NTDIB provides the weekly newspaper column and also powers the This Week in Bermuda events calendar in its monthly publication.“NTDIB is particularly well positioned to support the tourism industry in an interim capacity because we already have an infrastructure in place to support the collection and distribution of information,” said Ms Hattie, editor of NTDIB. “It is our hope that through collaboration with the Chamber’s Tourism Division, we can direct even more information and traffic to the site and in doing so, become the number one resource for tourism related information.”The Chamber says it is actively encouraging all of its members to post their community activities on the site and also engage in cross-promotion — driving visitors from their own websites to the NTDIB site.Useful website:www.nothingtodoinbermuda.com.
