Problems all over the pitch for Wenger

There’s something not quite right about the DNA of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side.At both ends of the pitch they have some serious deficiencies that urgently need remedying if they are to end their astonishing seven-year wait for a piece of silverware.Take their game against West Bromwich Albion last weekend. Chance after chance fell into their lap and yet they still couldn’t finish off a relegation threatened team who they really had to beat. It’s vital you have travel to places like the Hawthorns and pick up three points if you’re serious about winning the Premier League. Manchester United and Chelsea would grab these teams by the scruff of the neck and not let go, whereas Arsenal wait until they fall behind before they start playing. It’s madness and just can’t won’t keep getting away with it.A few days ago I heard that Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny had joked he would rather play behind 48-year-old youth team coach Steve Bould than any of the club’s current defenders. I totally agree with him! I’ve said for a long time Arsenal need some ‘old school’ defenders like Tony Adams and Bould who are ruthless and don’t mess around, especially in the middle.Adams and Co. didn’t take any unnecessary risks, they were no nonsense players, and that’s exactly what Arsenal need right now along with a ball winning midfielder. That’s the difference between them and the likes of United and Chelsea who have a killer instinct both in defence and attack.Alex Ferguson’s mighty reds come to Upton Park next weekend and I can tell you it won’t be an easy ride for them by any means. My beloved West Ham have found some form and our defence is sewn up a little bit. We went to White Hart Lane last weekend and claimed a valuable point, a point that could go a long way in the survival race. The Hammers keeper Robert Green was fantastic and earned his money with some unbelievable saves for us and I was thrilled to see him named in Fabio Capello’s England squad for this week’s internationals.Sure, West Ham were a bit lucky but luck is what you need at the business end of the season which Fergie refers to as ‘squeaky bum time!’I see Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho says he wants to come back to England, which is something I’d love to see. For me there’s only one team I can see him coaching and that’s United. The ‘Special One’ is the only current manager who has the ability to follow in Ferguson’s footsteps; anyone else would have a very hard job.I also read that Rafa Benitez wants to go back to Liverpool. Well, I’m not too sure the Liverpool fans would be too happy about that now they’ve got ‘King’ Kenny Dalglish.Football is indeed a funny old game and strange things happen but I can’t see a Benitez and Liverpool reunion any time soon.I think Mourinho is playing the waiting game, he has a three-year contract at Madrid that he wants to fulfill, but I do think he has one eye on the United jobThis weekend maybe all about international football but there aren’t any specific games I want to watch to be honest.I suppose Brazil and Scotland seems to be an interesting as well as England and Wales. That match will surely take a lot of people back to the old days of the Nations Cup, which saw England, Scotland, Wales and the Irish teams lock horns. The sad thing for Wales is that Gareth Bale is injured. Capello considers him as the best player in the world.
