Songwriter and filmmaker enters 5K to help raise awareness of brain tumours
Bermudian community activist, filmmaker and songwriter LA Virgil will be taking to the streets of Philadelphia next month to raise awareness of brain tumours. On November 4, Ms Virgil will take part in the seventh annual National Brain Tumour Society’s Race for Hope, a 5K run and walk aimed at raising funds to combat brain cancer.Ms Virgil was herself diagnosed in 1999 with an oligodendroglioma, a form of brain tumour which can lead to seizures, headaches and increased intercranial pressure. On the webpage of her team, TeamLA, Ms Virgil wrote: “I am passionate about this cause, and that is why I am walking.“On November 11, 1999, I was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma and my life has never been the same. My greatest quote would be when I was told I was dying was when I decided to live.“Therefore, this cause is important and funds raised here helps to direct promising research, support thousands of families who are currently coping with the effects of a brain tumour diagnosis and advocate for change.”Useful website: www.braintumorcommunity.org.
